A Journey of Commitment to Nature, Research, and Society
Nature has always been silently supporting us in countless ways. From the very fuel of life to the foundation of healthy living, everything we depend on originates from nature. Yet, many of us fail to recognize its importance or feel the urgency to protect it. The truth remains undeniable—life without nature is unimaginable.
Over time, human activities have increasingly disrupted this delicate balance. Environmental degradation, pollution, and reckless exploitation of natural resources are pushing nature toward instability. As a consequence, we ourselves are moving gradually toward an uncertain and vulnerable future. To overcome this threat, awareness, education, and responsible action are essential.
At the same time, Bangladesh continues to face multiple socio-environmental challenges—particularly in rural areas. Issues such as illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, improper healthcare, sanitation problems, lack of safe drinking water, arsenic contamination, drug abuse, violence against women, and dowry practices remain deeply rooted. These challenges are interconnected with environmental sustainability and require collective efforts to address.
Recognizing these realities, a visionary initiative was taken on 31st March 1998. At the call of Md. Mohidul Islam Alam, a student of the 1995–96 session of the Department of Botany at University of Rajshahi, a group of dedicated students from the Faculty of Biological Sciences and Earth Sciences—guided by respected teachers—came together with a shared passion for nature and service.
Thus, in Room No. 150 of the 3rd Science Building, the Biological, Nature and Environmental Research Organization, now known as LINERC, was established.
Since its inception, LINERC has remained committed to:
- Promoting knowledge and research on organisms, nature, and the environment
- Working toward environmental conservation and sustainability
- Preventing environmental pollution through awareness and action
- Engaging in social service and community-based initiatives
Over the years, LINERC has grown into a platform where education meets action. Beyond academic learning, the organization actively contributes to building environmental awareness and addressing real-world challenges through volunteer-driven initiatives.
On this special occasion of our Establishment Day, we reflect on our journey, achievements, and responsibilities. At the same time, we renew our commitment to work for a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
We sincerely invite the cooperation and participation of students, teachers, and people from all walks of life. Together, we can protect nature, empower communities, and create lasting positive change.
