On 28 July 2026, the Life, Nature and Environment Research Club (LINERC), University of Rajshahi, launched a new environmental initiative on the Rajshahi University campus.

The programme was organized on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day 2026.

Nature is the foundation of our existence. A healthy environment, clean water bodies, and protected biodiversity are essential for a sustainable future.

The programme was titled “Sustainable Parthenium Eradication & Water Bodies Cleaning Program.”

Parthenium can affect agricultural land and natural plant communities. It can also threaten local biodiversity. The plant is also known to cause allergic reactions and other health problems in people.

The first activity was carried out around the Juberi Field area of Rajshahi University. LINERC members worked to remove Parthenium hysterophorus, a harmful invasive weed.

The programme also focused on cleaning campus water bodies. Plastic and other waste were removed from the surrounding areas. Such waste can pollute water and damage aquatic habitats.

The programme was attended by Professor Dr. Sabrina Naz, Chairman of the Department of Botany, University of Rajshahi, and Chief Patron of LINERC. Her presence and guidance encouraged the members and strengthened the initiative.

The programme is not intended to be a one-day activity. LINERC plans to continue the work.

Regular removal of invasive plants and cleaning of water bodies can help create a healthier campus environment. It can also support biodiversity and increase environmental awareness among students.

LINERC believes that protecting nature is a continuous responsibility. Small actions can create meaningful change when people work together.

The club hopes to make Rajshahi University campus greener, cleaner, and more environmentally friendly through continued activities.
