On 29 August 2026 at 12:00 noon, a tree plantation programme was inaugurated at the University of Rajshahi campus.
The programme was organized jointly by the Center for Global Environment and Development (CGED) and the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Forum (NBCF).
The initiative focuses on raising awareness about the growing problem of lightning across Bangladesh. It also aims to support climate protection and biodiversity conservation through the plantation of palm trees.
As part of the programme, a total of 200 palm trees will be planted on the Rajshahi University campus.
Palm trees are an important part of the rural landscape of Bangladesh. They also have ecological value and can contribute to a more diverse and resilient environment.
The programme was designed as an environmental awareness initiative. It highlights the importance of increasing tree cover and protecting native plant species in the face of environmental and climatic challenges.
The Life Nature and Environment Research Club (LINERC), University of Rajshahi, supported the programme as an assisting organization.
LINERC members contributed to the successful implementation of the plantation activities on the campus. Their involvement reflects the club’s continued commitment to environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and community-based environmental action.
The plantation of 200 palm trees is a small but meaningful step. With proper care and long-term maintenance, these trees can become a valuable part of the university’s green landscape.
Environmental protection requires continuous effort. Such initiatives can also encourage students and the wider community to become more aware of climate change, biodiversity, and the importance of trees.
The joint initiative of CGED, NBCF, and LINERC is a reminder that protecting nature is a shared responsibility.
Plant a tree today. Protect nature for tomorrow.
